locksmiths greenford fixing a sticking door

If you are searching for “lock repair near me”, you probably have a lock that has become difficult to use, a key stuck in a door lock, a damaged mechanism, or a door that simply will not lock properly.

Watchdog Locksmiths provides professional lock repair services across London, the Home Counties and Huntingdon, helping homeowners, landlords and businesses get faulty locks working safely again. Our experienced, DBS-checked locksmiths can assess the problem, explain what needs repairing and advise whether fixing or replacing the lock is the most practical option.

With no call-out fee, you know you are paying for the locksmith work required rather than simply for somebody to arrive.

Local Lock Repair Services

Not every faulty lock needs replacing. Depending on the type of lock and the damage, a professional locksmith may be able to repair the existing mechanism and restore the door to normal working order.

Our locksmiths can help with common problems including:

  • Keys getting stuck or difficult to turn
  • Jammed door locks
  • Stiff or sticking locks
  • Broken keys in locks
  • Loose or damaged lock mechanisms
  • Doors that will not lock or unlock correctly
  • Faulty cylinders
  • Misaligned doors and locking mechanisms
  • Locks damaged following an attempted break-in
  • Emergency lock repairs

If a repair is not suitable, we can recommend an appropriate replacement lock and explain the options before work goes ahead.

Key Stuck in Door Lock? What Should You Do?

A key stuck in a door lock is one of the clearest signs that something is not working correctly.

Avoid repeatedly forcing or twisting the key. Excessive pressure can snap the key inside the lock or cause further damage to the cylinder or internal mechanism.

A key can become stuck because the lock is worn, the cylinder has developed a fault, the key itself is damaged, or the door and lock are no longer correctly aligned.

If the key will not come out easily, contact Watchdog Locksmiths. A locksmith can inspect the lock, remove the key where possible and identify the underlying problem rather than simply treating the symptom.

Should I Repair or Replace My Door Lock?

This depends on the condition and security level of the existing lock.

A relatively new lock with a minor mechanical or alignment problem may be repairable. However, replacement can be the better option if the lock is badly worn, repeatedly failing, damaged following an attempted burglary or no longer provides an appropriate level of security.

It is also worth reviewing older locks against the requirements stated in your home insurance policy.

Where an upgrade is appropriate, Watchdog can advise on high-security options, including the Watchdog 3 Star ALPS cylinder, designed to provide protection against common attack methods such as snapping, picking, bumping and drilling.

A Word from Paramjit, Director of Watchdog Locksmiths

“A lock becoming stiff or a key getting stuck is often the warning that something isn’t working as it should. Don’t keep forcing it until the key snaps or the lock fails completely. Our locksmiths will check what is causing the problem first and, wherever practical, repair the lock rather than replace parts unnecessarily. The important thing is leaving you with a door that works properly and a lock you can rely on.”

Absolutely appalling service. Do NOT use this company! Watchdog Locksmiths left my vulnerable mother-in-law in a potentially dangerous situation by failing to fix her back door lock, leaving her home unsecured. The engineer misaligned the door, which meant the back door would not lock properly. Despite attending to resolve the issue, he was unable to fix it. To make matters worse, the engineer arrived without a uniform and was unable to open a key safe. You would expect a professional locksmith to have the necessary skills, equipment and experience to carry out such a basic job, especially when dealing with a vulnerable person whose safety and security should be the absolute priority. Instead, we were left with a faulty lock, an insecure back door and a vulnerable family member potentially at risk. This is completely unacceptable and shows a shocking lack of professionalism and competence. How can a locksmith company leave a vulnerable person’s home unsecured and consider the job done? The whole point of calling a locksmith is to ensure someone’s home is safe and secure, not to leave them in a worse situation than before. I would strongly advise anyone considering using Watchdog Locksmiths to think twice. Based on our experience, I would not trust this company with the safety and security of my family’s home.

Extremely poor call centre staff. Their call receiving centre are unhelpful, poor command of the English language and dont know what is going on. It was impossible for me to speak directly to the Shop staff. When they promissed me a call back, this never happened. I had to physically drive to the shop to resolve my issue. Once at the shop my issue was resolved immediately. PLEASE CLOSE DOWN YOUR CALL CENTRE

Not sure how you got my review removed. I am a genuine customer and your company has ripped me off charging £300 to gain entry into my property when the rate established by the master locksmith association puts it at £90+vat.

Valsai what a life saver. I walked out of my house and pulled the front door closed and literally milli-seconds later realised that I had left my door keys on the side and now I've locked myself out great. Panic set in but I then remembered seeing a locksmith near were i live on Greenford road and (luckly i had my car keys at the time) so I drove down to thier office as I couldn't remember thier name but had driven past thier offices hundreds of times, saying good to know, but shouldn't need to use them!!!. Well today was that day. So I dropped in, I didn't have to wait long, and was greated by a helpful staff member who talked me through the booking process via WhatsApp, essy. I booked a locksmith via thier WhatsApp in the shop. it was confirmed in circa 5-10mins, I then drove back home 20mins later arriving back to be greated by one of the locksmiths waiting. He greated me as Valsai and talked me through the various options he had for trying to get me back in with the very, very, very last distructive option of having to drill out the lock, which neither of us realy wanted. which was a blessing to hear as if you've ever watched rogue traders you'll understand. This company in my eyes are 100% not that, nice feeling to have when your in such a position what ever time of the day. Valsai, was chatty and sincere about his work and reassuring to me that he was determined to get the lock open in under 30mins, which he did which was a relief. Prior to paying he offered me an option to purchase one of their upgrade serial linked locks, which if you did what I did, all you need do is go down to thier office with ID and the key reference and they will cut you a replacement key based, which is less than it cost for an emergency call out, to me value for money. I declined as funds a bit tight now more so due to this issue, but he wasn't pushing for a sale, he did advise if I changed my mind I could just go back to the office and pick one up there. Definitely thinking about it now, its cheaper than an emergency call out even if its in norm working hours.. Again as I have already said, these guys are definitely 5 star and actually come across as all genuine locksmiths...One thing I've learnt from today is check out registered locksmiths in your area who offer the registered lock system because it will save you money in the long run, even if you never need to call them ou, its peace of mind, thanks.

Can a locksmith repair a lock without replacing it?

Yes. Many lock faults can be repaired depending on the condition of the lock and the cause of the problem. A locksmith should inspect the mechanism before deciding whether repair or replacement is appropriate.

Why does my key keep getting stuck in the door lock?

Possible causes include a worn key, damaged cylinder, internal lock fault or door alignment problem. If it keeps happening, have the lock inspected before the key snaps or the mechanism fails.

Should I force a key that will not turn?

No. Forcing a key can damage the lock or cause the key to snap inside it. If normal, gentle pressure does not work, contact a locksmith.

How much does a locksmith cost?

The cost depends on the fault, type of lock, parts required and complexity of the work. Watchdog Locksmiths has no call-out fee, and the required work can be explained before proceeding.

Can Watchdog replace my lock if it cannot be repaired?

Yes. If repairing the existing lock is not practical or would leave you with inadequate security, Watchdog can recommend and fit an appropriate replacement.

Can you upgrade my lock at the same time?

Yes. If you are already having a faulty lock inspected, it can be a good opportunity to discuss whether a higher-security or insurance-compliant lock would be appropriate for your property.
